 Background

Dr. Curtis Ramsey has more than 40 years experience in education – with 24 years of those serving in various campus positions. He has been a public classroom teacher, college professor and educational consultant.

He served as a professor in teacher education at George Peabody College/Vanderbilt University; chair of elementary education at Kent State University; and as dean of the College of Education at the University of Bridgeport, Conn. For four years, he served as a consultant in teacher education to the Palestinians at Bir Zeit University near Ramallah.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Texas State University and his doctorate from George Peabody College/Vanderbilt University. He has also done post-doctoral work at Teachers College at Columbia University.

The father of four daughters and grandfather of four children, Dr. Ramsey and his wife, Dr. Virginia Oliwa Ramsey, live in Denton.
 

                              Insights & Contributions

Dr. Ramsey continuously demonstrates his commitment to the youth of Denton and throughout Texas. He is one of four Texas school trustees elected statewide to serve on the Legislative Advisory Committee to the Texas Association of School Boards.  He is a member of the executive committee on  the North Texas Area Association of  School Boards.  One of his biggest commitments is that he is widely utilized as a consultant and testifier before the Texas Legislature.  During legislative sessions, Dr. Ramsey volunteers hundreds of hours – making numerous trips to Austin and Washington D.C. – to visit and speak to legislators about many proposed bills that had a direct impact on education  - and erosion of the tax base - and the students of Texas and the nation. Dr. Ramsey achieved in 1996 the Master Trustee status from TASB.
