Background
Mr. Stafford, who returned to the Board in May 2004, is a veteran board member. He served on the Denton ISD Board of Trustees from 1988 to 1994. His passion for young people, along with an in-depth knowledge of the area’s real estate, makes him a valuable asset to the board. He was born in Lubbock, Texas and entered the Plan II program at the University of Texas in Austin in 1970. Mr. Stafford has lived in DISD for 25 years. He is a Realtor and a real estate developer.
Mr. Stafford’s professional experience includes 10 years in the Texas House of Representatives, where he worked for three speakers of the House and directed a committee staff. That experience has proven useful in the Board’s attempts to deal with school finance issues.
A father of seven children including four adopted kids, Mr. Stafford brings an extremely strong “child advocacy” perspective plus a business orientation to the board. He has seven children: 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, and 26.
Insights and Contributions
Mr.Stafford spends a great deal of time interacting with the DISD community. For example, he participates in fund-raising activities for the Boy Scouts of America, Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County, Denton High School Choir, and numerous other student groups.
Mr. Stafford is actively involved in numerous business and professional organizations and related activities. He has attended Denton County Days in Austin in coalition with organized groups from Denton to visit with legislators and address concerns
