Inspired to explore Life Long Learning in new ways
I had the privilege to attend a workshop today with David Warlick entitled Contemporary Literacy in the New Information Landscape. Listening to David has caused me to think that I need to examine my own 'Life Long Learning' process. I do attend a conference or workshop here and there. I have explored a specific web 2.0 application in order to be able to present staff development. I look at things people send across my path here and there. But do I take an active role in seeking to learn new things on a regular basis?

David spoke of how fast the amount of information is increasing. He was talking in multiple exabytes. Five exabytes, was equal to the contents of a half a million new libraries, each containing a digitized version of the print collection of the entire U.S. Library of Congress. The vast majority of that information is NOT in print. So....where is the largest amount of possible learning located? On the web.

Another major portion of the workshop dealt with how learning is now more of a social process. We each can have a 'learning community' we participate in and learn from. Most of the digital natives already have that going on as part of their daily lives.

This blog is my first step to redefine my own life long learning process and to seek out and establish my own learning community. I want to set a few easy goals to start with.
1. Post regularly to this blog, about the things I'm learning
2. Look for a good blog (library or web 2.0 or literacy) and follow it regularly
3. Explore a new web 2.0 site at least once a week

I'm ready to explore!
