The APE Department in Special Education Services hires students enrolled in master's or doctoral level adapted physical education coursework at Texas Woman's University (TWU) in the Kinesiology Department. This collaborative effort between the university and the district allows graduate students to gain valuable hands-on teaching experience while completing a degree program of study as well as various professional certification requirements. APE specialists have been trained through the collaborative agreement between Texas Woman's University APE Faculty and the district APE Services specialists since 1994.
Mission Statement
The APE Services personnel are committed to function as an integral part within the Special Education Services (SES) and learning community of the Denton Independent School District (DISD) designed to make lasting contributions to the lives of all students, especially those with disabilities, through programs that contribute positively to the optimal development of those students while promoting safe, active, healthy lifestyles to utilize and interact in their surrounding communities.
