Welcome Letter for 2010-2011 School Year

Future Allstars, a district-wide summer program for
students with social difficulties, has recently completed 2010
summer program.  It is currently based at Guyer HS under
the diirection of Dr. Laurie Harrier, LP, LSSP, NCSP.
Future Allstars helps the students in our district develop
and refine their social competency through leadership skills,
social autopsies, weekly outings, and semi-structured social
activities.  The program involves mentorship by local high
schoolers from Denton ISD.  Cooperation, friendship, and
respect are themes which are prevelant through all activities.
Follow up on how the skills taught during Future Allstars were
generalized and maintained will occur during the upcoming school
year.  Please see the website for Future Allstars for more information.

Denton ISD Autism Social Skills

The autism social skills program is entering its fourth year and the program continues to grow. All six middle schools and one high school are currently participating in the secondary program, which includes small group instruction, role plays, discussion groups, and outings within the community for students with high functioning Autism or Asperger’s Disorder. The elementary program is also budding with multiple social skills groups in several schools across the district. The success of this program has been acknowledged locally and nationally as Dr. Wendi Bauman Johnson (LSSP) will be presenting in December at the Texas State Autism Conference in Corpus Christi, TX, and in March at the National School Psychology Conference in Chicago, IL.
