DENTON JOHN GUYER HIGH SCHOOL WILDCAT GOLF

WELCOME WEB PAGE

Welcome to the Wildcat Golf pages of John Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.  Our address is 7501 Teasley Lane, Denton 76210 and our school telephone is 940.369.1000.
Assistant coach Lance Brown and head coach Roddy Adams greatly appreciate your interest in our program which consists of fall and spring golf for both the girls and the boys teams.  We currently have 11 girls and 14 boys on our 2010-2011 teams.  Our Lady Wildcats won District 5-4A championships in the spring of 2007 and 2009.  They earned another Region 1 birth with a second place finish in April of 2008 and finished third in 2010.  In our school's 5 years the boys have finished 5th, 4th, 4th, 5th, and 2nd in 2010  with one regional qualifier in '07 and '09 with the team qualifying in 2010 for regionals. The Girl's and Boy's team of May 2010 graduated 1 player each.

Though the '10-'11 season has many from the top five [each team] returning the varsity positions are open for the best five players. Competition should create better play up and down the lineup.  Our school practices are generally held at Lantana Golf Club, Oakmont Country Club, T.W.U. golf course and the North Lakes driving range facility.  The district has long range plans of building a practice facility using artificial greens with bunkers and a driving range area adjacent to the
C.H. Collins Athletic Complex as well.  Girls have their practice time on “A” days, from 2:30 to generally the 5:00-5:30 time frame while the boys are on “B” days with the same time periods.  If players are members at the practice site they are welcome, obviously, to stay as long as they wish.

The varsity teams play the maximum of eight tournaments allowed by the U.I.L. in addition to the district tournament and hopefully regional and state tournaments which individuals and teams must qualify to participate.  We have fall and spring golf as do most 4A and 5A schools in north Texas. The junior varsity or varsity B-team will play 6-8 tournaments, and players with enough skills and ability also can be chosen to participate in the April district tournament.  Players in Texas, as in most states, are also allowed, in fact encouraged to play on various junior tournament tours throughout the year as long as the school’s tournament schedule is considered.

Our overall goals are to win the district championships each year, to win the Region I championships in Lubbock, Texas, and obviously to be first among the eight teams that play for the State Championship in Austin, Texas each May.  Individual championships are also possible in Texas High School sports such as golf and tennis.  Our coaching philosophies are to practice to become better players and not to practice just to pass time or to become consistent with bad habits.  Academics are of the utmost importance due to the long range effects, obviously, upon individual lives.  Therefore we stress quality grades as well as quality character in each student/athlete.  Please take the time to examine our website and feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding our recently "Recognized" school or our golf program.  In addition to our coaching staff we also have great support in our administrative positions headed by our principal, Barbara Fischer.
