Mr. Jeremy Labelle
I graduated, with Honors, from the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada, with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance Major). Following graduation, I worked in a large Canadian financial institution as a financial planner and earned a number of professional designations like CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and CIM (Canadian Investment Manager). In August of 2000, my wife and I moved to Denton in order for her study for her Masters and Doctorate Degrees. I chose to enter the field of teaching and, concurrent to teaching at McMath Middle School, I completed certification to teach 8-12 Mathematics through the University of Texas – Arlington and the Texas Education Agency in May of 2004. This is my twelfth year at Guyer High School and I am teaching Math Models, and Pre-AP Algebra 2. In prior teaching years, I taught 8th grade Math (Regular and Enhanced levels), Algebra 1 (Pre-AP, Regular), Algebra 2 (Pre-AP), and Geometry (Pre-AP, Regular, ESL), and Pre-Calculus (Pre-AP, Regular), and AP Statistics .
To me, mathematics is not just something to be used in the classroom. It represents a way to understand the world around us and describe it in accurate detail. Its application to disciplines such as engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, economics, business and technology (and more) is what interests me. Mathematics provides a universal way to communicate too! What I do in high school is teach the mechanics of this powerful communication tool and introduce the practicality of it.
"If people do not realize that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is."
