Kyle Mullins is beginning his sixth year as a band director. After four years in Keller ISD, this year is his second at Crownover. Before becoming a band director, Mullins was a private teacher in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, and was on the faculty at Tarrant County College.

Mullins holds the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Trombone Performance from the University of North Texas where he studied with Tony Baker and Vern Kagarice. He is also a Summa Cum Laude graduate in Music Education from Abilene Christian University.

While at North Texas, Dr. Mullins performed with the internationally acclaimed Wind Symphony, and can be heard on numerous GIA Publications “Windworks” and “Teaching Music Through Performance in Band” recordings. Additionally, in 2009 he was invited to perform in the finals of the ITA Frank Smith Solo competition and the Lewis Van Haney Tenor Trombone Philharmonic Prize, winning first prize in both. In March 2011, he won first place in the Division III Tenor Trombone Competition at the annual U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own Eastern Trombone Workshop.

Dr. Mullins is also an active freelance performer throughout Texas. He is beginning his 12th season as second trombonist of the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, and has also performed with the Big Spring Symphony, San Angelo Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony, and the Brazos Valley Symphony.

In his spare time, Mullins enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing games, watching baseball, and cooking.
