Dear Cross Oaks families,
On Tuesday, October 17, we are making several changes to our morning arrival systems. Please read this letter in its entirety so you and your family will be prepared for our new procedures.
These changes are taking place for several reasons. Cross Oaks is currently one of the largest elementary schools in the district, and the growth in our student population has made it difficult for families to find reliable parking and walk students to class before the tardy bell rings at 7:40 am. Also, it is important for our teachers to solely focus on welcoming students to class from 7:30 to 7:40 to ensure a smooth and predictable beginning to their day of learning. Finally, these changes will result in a safer and more organized campus climate by allowing us to verify the identity of all adults who enter our building before school.
These changes are as follows:
- First, we are adding a second location for morning car drop-off to make this process quicker, safer, and more efficient for our parents and students. From 7:15 to 7:40 am daily, in addition to the car drop-off option behind the gym using the Corral Street driveway, parents will also be able to drop students off by car by the cafeteria using the Liberty Boulevard parking lot. More details, including maps of each drop-off location, can be found in the attachments to this message.
- Also beginning on this date, parents will no longer have the option of walking students to their classrooms in the mornings before school. However, parents will always be welcome at Cross Oaks in the morning and during the school day for both volunteer opportunities and as lunch visitors. While our daytime volunteer systems for parents remain the same, we are also offering new opportunities for volunteering in the morning from 7:10 am to 7:40 am. We have several important morning responsibilities that we could use help with. If you are interested please complete the form at this link to become a VIP Volunteer: https://goo.gl/forms/rT8v71l1oxNZbJV82. Please note that all campus volunteers are required to complete a district background check.
All changes discussed in this letter will go into effect Tuesday, October 17. Please review the frequently asked questions at this link and updated arrival system maps at this link, which describe these changes in much greater detail. Parents of pre-k and PPCD students can expect additional communication in the coming days detailing specific systems that will apply to this grade level.
I understand that these changes will be difficult for some of our students and families. Parents are encouraged to begin discussing these new systems with their children this week, and teachers will discuss these changes with students the week of October 9th to allow for a smooth transition. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at (972) 347-7100 or at email@example.com.
With Cross Oaks pride,
Matt Preston, Principal
