I’ve known I wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid; I just wasn’t sure what subject I wanted to teach. After a short stint teaching American Sign Language in
, I found myself in the wonderful world of Theatre where I stayed for 10 years before landing in the ASL classroom. People ask me if I miss the stage, the lights, the excitement… My answer, teaching is fun! I feel that teaching American Sign Language is very similar to teaching Theatre; with the storytelling, the facial expressions, and the way you have to use your body. The excitement we have in class more than makes up for anything I might be “missing” on the stage. Mesquite
Philosophy of Education:
My educational philosophy is simple; learning should be fun and relative. My goal in
ASLis to stretch kids beyond their comfort zone; to develop their creativity and think outside the box. I want my students to gain confidence in themselves while they learn to appreciate the language and the culture of the Deaf, by better understanding their own culture and language. I want my students to be better people when they leave my classroom, and I want to inspire them to be lifelong learners.
