• Reading Matters
  • Thank you for visiting my webpage! My name is Holly Hamilton, and I am the Reading Recovery teacher at Adkins Elementary School.  I have taught in Denton ISD for 22 years.   I began my career at McNair Elementary teaching 2nd grade. When Denton ISD made the transition to full day kindergarten, I became a kindergarten teacher.  After 9 years of teaching kindergarten, at McNair Elementary and then E.P. Rayzor Elementary, I decided that it was time to try something new.  I wanted to teach some form of reading intervention....I was open to any position that would let me focus on helping struggling readers learn how to read.  I took a position as a reading interventionist for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  I had never taught above 2nd grade, and to be honest I was a little bit nervous about teaching those big 5th graders!  I quickly realized that they were just bigger children!  I had found my new love...teaching children how to become better readers.  I was perfectly happy with my new job, of teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, when I was offered the opportunity to be trained as a reading recovery teacher.  Since this position combined my love of reading, with my first love of teaching young children, I accepted the offer to be trained as a reading recovery teacher!  I have taught Reading Recovery at Pecan Creek Elementary since 2011 and am looking forward to the opportunity of teaching Reading Recovery along with Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade literacy groups at Adkins Elementary.
