Hello from Mrs. Uribe!
I am the Reading Recovery/Early Literacy Intervention teacher for E.P. Rayzor Elementary. Read on to find out more about what I do!
WHAT IS READING RECOVERY?
Reading Recovery® is a short-term early literacy intervention designed for first graders having difficulty learning to read and write. As part of a comprehensive literacy program that begins with good classroom instruction, Reading Recovery is an important component of a total school plan to prevent reading failure.
Reading Recovery provides a systematic, intensive, individualized instruction from a teacher who has been specially trained in effective early literacy instruction and early intervention. The supplemental 30-minute daily lessons typically range from to 20 weeks. This instruction enables most students to make faster than average progress, catch up with their peers and continue their literacy learning with independence in the regular classroom.
WHAT ARE LITERACY GROUPS?
Part of my day is spent meeting with Literacy Groups. In the fall I meet with first and second grade literacy groups, and in the spring semester I will add kindergarten groups.
Literacy group time provides for small group literacy instruction to help students accelerate quickly. The time allows for children to receive a “double-dip” of literacy instruction. In literacy groups, the students focus on reading at their instructional level, word work with spelling patterns and word building, shared reading for fluency and reading strategy instruction and writing opportunities.
