My name is April Leatherwood, and I will be teaching 6th Grade Writing for the 2017-2018 school year. I was born and raised in Denton, Texas.....too many years ago to mention! I am a graduate of the University of North Texas with a specialization in Reading. I grew up in a family full of teachers, and this inspired me to become a teacher myself. Both of my grandmothers, my mother, and several of my aunts were all teachers. I love teaching, and this will be my 25th year to work for the Denton Independent School District. I began my teaching career in 1993 as a self contained 4th grade teacher at McNair Elementary School. I next opened E.P. Rayzor Elementary in Lantana as a 5th Grade Reading Teacher. After teaching there for five years, I transferred to Harpool Middle School. This will be my 10th year teaching at Harpool, where I have had the privilege of teaching Read 180 and both 6th and 8th grade Writing. I feel very fortunate to be able to work with such a great staff and community. As far as my personal life goes, I am married with two darling daughters, Kinley, who is 12, is in the 7th grade, and Ryleigh, who is 15, is in the 10th grade. My other children consist of my cocker spaniels, Pepper and Bailey, my weimrador, Zoe, and my persian kitty, Bella. I love to spend my spare time shopping, watching my daughters play sports, eating out, traveling, and hanging out with my friends and family. I love country music, going snow skiing, boating, and going to the beach. I am looking forward to a great year.
