WINTERFEST 201719 Students qualified for the Texas State German Contest in San Marcos,TX on February 25th.

GOALS: to offer opportunities to experience the German culture, practice the language, interact with students from Guyer and the DFW area—and have fun! We meet in L102. The officers plan our activities for the month at their meetings, hold a Stammtisch (time to chat), and play some games in German.
Some of our events include:
Film Abend (film night)
Sportfest – a DFW wide German competition that includes soccer, pretzel eating and scavenger hunts. likely October.
Winterfest, the regional academic and arts contest for German students. Where you measure your skills against other students from over 35 North Texas schools. 02/04/17. at Paschal HS in Fort Worth.
State German Contest at UT in Austin. If you qualify at Winterfest, you get to compete against the top students from the entire state. Students who place in the top could win scholarships. We include a brief trip to cities near San Marcos that were founded by Germans and home to Texasdeutsch. 02/25/17. at TSU in San Marcos
Deutscher Samstag, a linguistic and cultural immersion event for German students.
(usually held at a university).
Mav's Night is an opportunity to enjoy a Maverick's basketball game and meet German superstar, Dirk Nowitzki, after the game! In January 2017.
Please read the German Club Handbook online and sign the attached form. The date of the first meeting will be announced and officers elected. Calendar details will be published on my website and in the school’s activity calendar.
Special Note: Please read about our German American Partnership Program
on Mr. Shade’s website. This is a unique opportunity for German students only, occurring every other year. Our students must be in German 3 or German 4, and host students from our partner school in Berlin. In return our students are hosted for 3-4 weeks in the summer.
Please email me if you are available to occasionally help with German club events. Parent participation is welcome.
