I am honored to be teaching at Borman Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year! Each year at this campus has been better than the last, and I have no doubt this trend will continue.
After spending my formative years on Galveston Island, I attended UNT for undergraduate and graduate school. I have proudly called Denton my home ever since. I was an in-home behavior therapist for kids and worked with schools in the Peace Corps, but I never considered being a teacher until I interned in classrooms for my Master's program (my dream was to be the next Indiana Jones). I was hooked immediately! For a decade and a half, I have taught in a few different settings, sometimes focusing on specific subjects, at other times getting to integrate all areas through inquiry learning. It doesn't seem to matter, as long as I am involved in education, I feel I am where I am meant to be!
While I enjoy working with all learners, 4th is my favorite grade! One major reason is it's the first year we study Texas History. While world travel is a passion of mine, I have learned that there are many odd and interesting things to see right here in The Lone Star State. Teaching fourth grade has led me to explore and investigate our state, and there is a lot to discover.
In 4th grade, we also develop a love of the spoken and written word by valuing ourselves as authors and by broadening our reading horizons. We strengthen our communication skills as we share ideas and present what we find as well as what we create.
I can't wait to get started; it is going to be a phenomenal year!
