Hello.  This is my 28th year working in education and my 2nd year at Hawk Elementary.  I am very excited to be here and looking forward to a great year.  My teaching experience consists of 16 years as a speech therapist, 8 years as a special education teacher, and this is my 4th year as a full time dyslexia therapist.
I am originally from New Jersey and still have family there, so I make several trips back every year. I graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, and received my Masters' Degree from TWU. I obtained my dyslexia training through the LEAD program in Dallas and am currently a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) as well as a Certified Dyslexia Therapist (through the International Dyslexia Association). My husband and I have been married for 32 years and moved to Denton in 1988.  We have 3 children and enjoy traveling.  My daughter currently lives and works in Manhattan, NY.  My middle child just graduated from UNT and is working in banking. My youngest is a senior at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
I am committed to helping my students do their very best and feel successful as students and readers.  We are using a program by Margaret Taylor Smith called Multisensory Teaching Approach, also known as MTA, which is based on the Orton-Gillingham teaching method. In addition to this, we use some parts of the Take Flight Program from Scottish Rite Hospital. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child and I will be glad to help!
