    Lesli Guajardo Lesli Guajardo has been named the principal Braswell High School, the district’s fourth comprehensive high school. Braswell High is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016.

    Dr. Guajardo is currently serving as principal at Hurst Junior High School, where she has been the principal for seven years. She brings more than 20 years of experience in secondary education to her new role and is excited to be the inaugural principal of a new high school.

    “It’s a very special opportunity that I’m being given and I’m excited for the opportunity,” Dr. Guajardo said. “I wouldn’t go just anywhere from my current district, but once I looked into Denton ISD I knew that was the place I wanted to be.”

    Recognized by many as a leader who looks for continuous improvement in herself, her students and her schools, Dr. Guajardo has been honored by Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD as an administrator of the year three times during her 11 years with the district. She was named HEB ISD Assistant Principal of the Year in 2007, Secondary Testing Coordinator of the Year in 2008 and Secondary Principal of the Year in 2010.

    Dr. Guajardo has presented numerous times across the state on classroom instruction measures and the usage of data to improve schools. Her work helped Hurst Junior High attain a National Blue Ribbon School distinction by the U.S. Department of Education in 2010 and also led to her peers recognizing her as the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals Region XI Middle School Principal of the Year in 2013.

    “Awards and accolades are nice, but that comes from building a great team to support your students and school. I want to build that team at Braswell High and begin building the relationships necessary for us to have high expectations and exceed those expectations moving forward,” she said.

    Dr. Guajardo began her career as an English teacher in Midland ISD in 1995. She served as a middle school assistant principal in Leander ISD before joining HEB ISD in 2004 as an assistant principal at Hurst Junior High. She was named principal of that school in 2008.

    A certified English as a Second Language teacher, Dr. Guajardo earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University and her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of North Texas.

    Dr. Guajardo is married to David Lambert, owner of Lambert Studios in Fort Worth.
