Cody Moore, former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rockwall High School, has been named the athletic coordinator and head football coach of Braswell High School, placing a winning coach at the helm of the new program.

Coach Moore brings 11 years of experience as an assistant football coach and eight as an offensive coordinator. He will assist Lesli Guajardo, school principal, in filling out the Braswell athletic staff and overseeing the school’s fledgling sports programs.

“Being a head coach has always been a dream of mine and from all the things I’ve heard about Denton ISD, there’s no better place to work,” Moore said. “Denton ISD does things the right way from an academic standpoint and from an athletic standpoint. They set you up to be successful, which helps your student-athletes be successful.”

Coach Moore is coming off a record-setting 2014 season at Rockwall, helping the Yellowjackets produce the highest scoring offense in Class 6A and set school records in every team offensive category. Rockwall advanced to the playoffs in both his seasons as offensive coordinator, reaching the Class 6A Region II semifinal before losing to state semifinalist Spring Westfield. The school’s 12-1 record last season was its best in more than a decade.

Prior to Rockwall, Coach Moore served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Horn High School in Mesquite for four years. He began his career as an assistant at Royse City High School before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2007.

In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Moore was responsible for the academic progress of all football players, developed the summer strength and conditioning programs and coordinated the college recruiting process for students in his programs.

Throughout his career, Coach Moore has been instrumental in helping his teams and students succeed. Nine of his 11 teams have reached the postseason, with three advancing to the regional round.

His students have gone on to earn distinctions for their academic and athletic prowess as well, with many signing college scholarships and even advancing to the NFL. Jacorey Shepherd, a former standout of Coach Moore’s at Mesquite Horn who went on to play collegiately at the University of Kansas, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles this year.

“From an overall standpoint, we always want student-athletes, and that means we want our students to be successful in the classroom as well as on the field,” Moore said. “We’re going to create an atmosphere where our kids want to be here. I’m excited to be here, so I want them excited, too.”

Coach Moore, his wife, Stefani, and their son, Braxton, currently reside in Rockwall with plans on moving to the Denton ISD area.
