Mr. Bryan Beck

I was born in Colorado, have lived in 7 different states (Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Oklahoma, and Tennessee) and 4 different countries (The United States, Costa Rica, Argentina, and Ecuador). I have lived in Texas since 2006 and I love living in Denton. This is my first year teaching and I am so happy to be at Borman Elementary!

I learned to speak Spanish when I was in elementary school. I moved to San Jose, Costa Rica and did not know more than a few words in Spanish. Learning Spanish was difficult for me and I feel like I learned slower than the other students. A year later I began to understand some Spanish and my family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. The accent was very different there and it added an extra hurdle to my language learning. As I made friends and spent more time around Spanish-speakers, I felt like my language skills improved. After about four years my family moved to Quito, Ecuador. We lived there for about three years. My family moved back to the United States before my senior year of high school. It was difficult finishing high school in another new place, but I was able to make some new friends.

After I graduated high school I attended Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. I was there for a year then transferred to Dallas Baptist University to be closer to family. I graduated from Dallas Baptist University with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2009.

I worked as a case manager for a foster care organization for three years after graduating. I was assigned to work with children who spoke Spanish and connected them with foster homes.

After working for a few years I decided to go back to school to get my master’s in education. I chose to go to Texas Woman’s University and hoped to teach in the Denton school district. I am still working on my master’s degree and will graduate in the spring of 2016.

I met my wife when I studied at Dallas Baptist University. We got married and bought a house in 2013.  She is the music teacher at Borman Elementary and the person who inspired me to become a teacher as well. We have two dogs and we spend a lot of time with them. In our free time we like to travel, learn about new cultures, be outside in nature, and be doing something active.
