Speech-Language Pathology addresses many domains; however, not all are commonly addressed in the school setting. School-based speech and language therapy addressed the following areas of functional communication:Articulation – speech sound productionLanguage – receptive language (what is understood, input) and expressive language (what is expressed, output)Pragmatic Language – how language is used socially across settings and peopleFluency – stuttering impairments (sound, word or phrase repetitions, prolongations, blocks)Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) – utilization of forms of communication other than oral speech to express thoughts and needs (pictures, sign language, speech generating devices, etc.)

Speech and Language services are provided for children who have an identified speech impairment in the area of articulation/phonology, voice, fluency, and/or language as determined by state and federal law and district policy.
