Our Attendance Department

  • Attendance Department

The office of Student Support Services is responsible for attendance referrals when students/parents are in non-compliance with state compulsory attendance laws. Denton ISD attendance officers:
    • Make direct contact with students/parents who have poor attendance
    • Help facilitate improved attendance with students who are at-risk for poor attendance
    • File truancy cases in the Justice of the peace and Municipal Courts
    • Conduct truancy court actions for the school district
    • Represent the Denton ISD schools and State of Texas in truancy court
    • Monitor improved attendance with truant students after court action has been taken
PLEASE NOTE - When a student must be absent from school, the student - upon returning to his/her campus - must bring a note, signed by the parent or a doctor that describes the reason for the absence.
While phone calls and e-mails are very much appreciated, they will not be accepted as official documentation to excuse an absence.  All written/dated/signed notes must be turned in within 72 hours (3 school days) from the student’s return from his/her absence.  Please do not turn in notes to the classroom teacher.
