• Special Education Acronyms
     
    ARD Meeting:  admission, review, or dismissal meeting in whch a child's individual education plan is reviewed or developed, or an evaluation report is shared or a child is dismissed.
     
    IEP:  Individual Education Plan.  This is a plan for the students education that makes changes in the TEKS.
     
    LRE:  least restrictive environment
     
    FIE:  Full and Individual Evaluation.  This is a comprehensive evaluation for a child.  One is done before a child in placed in special education and must be renewed every 3 years.
     
    BIP:  Behavior Intervention Plan.  This is the individual behavior plan with goals and objectives as well as strategies for responding to the behaviors to improve them and also consequences.
     
    PT:  This stands for physical therapy which is also a related service for which a student must qualify.  It is only for educational purposes not therapeutic purposes.
     
    OT:  This stands for occupational therapy which is also a related service for shich a student must qualify.  It is only for educational purposes not therapeutic purposes.
     
    Present Levels of Performance:  This is the child's current level of functioning academically.

                      LD - Specific Learning Disability
                      MD - Multiple Disabilities
                      MR - Mentally Retarded
                      OHI - Other Health Imapirment
                      OI - Orthopedically Imparied
                      TBI - Traumatic Brain Injury
                      VI - Visually Impaired
