• Bucketfilling
I wanted to share this lovely book with you as I have with many of your children.
In a new twist on the Golden Rule, Have You Filled a Bucket Today? explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our good thoughts and feelings.  When our buckets are full, we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad.  It's important to know that when we fill someone else's bucket, we fill our own, and we both feel happy.  When we "dip" in someone else's bucket, by bullying or saying something mean, we dip in our own bucket, too.
Many classrooms have implemented the bucket system, with an actual bucket for each student.  Friends fill each other's buckets with notes or pictures, giving them encouragement, paying them compliments, and helping them feel loved and appreciated.
