Randy Schmidt holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with all-level certification in vocal and general music. He is also certified in the Kodály and Orff-Schulwerk music methods. Before moving to Denton in 2003, he taught elementary music and middle school choir for a total of five years in Amarillo ISD. In 2011, Schmidt represented Pecan Creek Elementary as their Teacher of the Year and was later named Denton ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Schmidt enjoys music research and writing and has authored, compiled, and edited several books. He is the author of Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter, a Wall Street Journal Best Seller featured on "Entertainment Tonight" and "Inside Edition." It was also positively reviewed in People and the New York Times, the latter naming it an "Editor's Choice" in 2010. His other books include Yesterday Once More: The Carpenters Reader (Chicago Review Press, October 2012), Judy Garland on Judy Garland: Interviews and Encounters (Chicago Review Press, September 2014), and Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton (Chicago Review Press, May 2017).
