My name is Jamie Rives and I have the pleasure of teaching Mildred Hawk Mavericks the joy of music! I met my husband, David in music school at Tarleton State University. David is the Head Choir Director at Denton Ryan High School. We have been married since 2000 and have a son, named Christian. As you might imagine, music plays a huge role in the lives of my family. However, throughout the week, you will see me at my son's choir concerts, football games and basketball games. I also enjoy exercising, scrap booking and playing with our dog, Molly.
I graduated from Tarleton State University as the Outstanding Graduate for the Fine Arts Department, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, K-12 certification, in December of 2000. In 2016, I received the honor of "Hawk Elementary Teacher of the Year." I am currently in graduate school at Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, working on a Master's in Elementary Music with a specialization in Kodaly.
I enjoy teaching a Kodaly curriculum, with some Orff & Dalcroze learning theories, to help each child reach music literacy. I offer a balance of instrumental music education along side vocal music education and corresponding performing opportunities, including Maverick Chorale (5th & 4th Grade choir), Maverick Ringers (5th Grade hand chimes), Denton ISD 5th Grade Honor Choir, and PTA grade level programs with 1st & 3rd Grade students (full grade level participation).
It is my pleasure and honor to share my passion for music with the students of Mildred Hawk Elementary. I treasure each moment and look forward to years to come!
