I cannot tell you how excited I am to start another year here at Savannah Elementary. My name is Yvonne Gentry and I will be your child’s second grade teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. I am looking forward to working with you and your child.
This will be my twenty-sixth year in teaching: I have taught first, second, third, fourth and sixth grade. One of the biggest honors I have received in my teaching career was to have been selected Savannah Teacher of Year in 2009.
I am originally from El Paso, Texas, where I was born and raised. There, I graduated from the University of El Paso and became a teacher. I have been married for 25 years to my husband Max. We have a wonderful and beautiful daughter named Staci, who is majoring in physical therapy with a minor in journalism. We also have a very spoiled long haired dachshund named Sparky who I am quite certain believes he is human. Family time is cherished and is spent with us traveling to new places and watching every Marvel movie that comes out in theaters.
Teaching has always been a passion for me. I aspire to be the teacher who makes kids want to come to school every day. When I look at my students I see endless possibilities. As your child’s teacher, I promise I will always be in these three places: in front of them to cheer them on, behind them to have their back and next to them so they are not walking alone.
