During our Social Studies units, your child will be responsible for completing a Current Event report. They will report on one event that is occurring in our nation or world. I encourage this assignment to be done with a parent due to some of the topics and news stories they may encounter. As a parent, please use discretion with your child when choosing a story on which to report. Make sure the story will contribute to every student's knowledge of what is going on in our world. Suggested stories include: News politics, education, the economy, our weather, medical/scientific discoveries, and historical sporting events. Below I have listed some good, quality websites that I have approved for this assignment. However, if you would like for your child to watch the nightly news or read the newspaper in order to gather their information, that is also acceptable, but again please use discretion. I have also attached the current events worksheet in case they misplace the worksheet that I send home. This assignment will be assigned on Monday and will be due back on Friday during our Social Studies units. The current event assignment will be written in their agendas whenever it is assigned. The grading rubric (how this assignment will be graded) is also listed below. If you have any questions, please contact me at aevans@dentonisd.org.

Thanks,
Mrs. Evans
