All About Me!

I am originally from Natchez, Mississippi, but grew up in Lewisville, TX.  I graduated from Lewisville HS and attended Texas A&M University.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Elementary Education (Early Childhood Education Emphasis) in December of 2000, after student teaching at Lakeland Elementary in Lewisville.  I took a mid-year position in Coppell, Texas for full day Kindergarten and then taught 3rd grade in Istanbul, Turkey for the 2001-2002 school year.  After arriving home from Turkey, I started teaching first grade for two years at Old Settlers in Flower Mound. At this point, I decided I wanted to make the move to Denton. I taught for 3 years at Lee (1st grade for 2 years and Kindergarten for one year). In that time, I received my certification to teach ESL (English as a Second Language). After that, I was excited about the possibility of opening up a new school, so I joined the Nelson 1st Grade team when the school opened in 2007! After 3 years on the Nelson 1st Grade Team, I decided to transition into Reading Intervention by teaching Reading Recovery here at Nelson. I did that for 2 years and learned so much about the reading process! I went back to 1st for a while at Nelson to use what I learned and started doing more with STEM in elementary. I started the first K-2 Engineering club and have enjoyed doing that in my free time!

This will be my 18th year teaching overall, and I'm excited about my move up to 3rd Grade!

    I love to:
read (a lot!), hang out with friends, travel, drink chai tea from Starbucks, take photographs of people and places, write, kayak, and dance!
