Thank you for visiting the Cross Oaks Elementary website! My name is Matt Preston, and I am honored to serve as your principal. The 2017-18 school year will be my fourth at Cross Oaks, and I am excited to continue working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to benefit our students and the Cross Oak Ranch community!
This is my sixteenth year in education, and I have been blessed to work in the Denton Independent School District for the past fifteen years. I began my teaching career as a music and art teacher, followed by eight years teaching fourth grade. This will be my seventh year working as a school administrator.
I received my bachelor of science from the University of North Texas in elementary education with a minor in music, and I earned my master of arts degree from Texas Woman's University in educational administration. My thesis focused on the value of music education to accomplishing school goals.
The most important thing in my life is my family. My wife Lindsay is an educator as well and has been instrumental in my personal growth as a teacher and leader. We are blessed with two daughters, Eloise and Clara. In my spare time, I enjoy playing and writing music, cooking, traveling, and of course spending time with my family.
If you are new to Cross Oaks, welcome to our school family! I have no doubt you will find our school to be filled with warm, caring adults with a heart for teaching and relationship-building. I am very proud of the quality of our staff and the passion and dedication they bring to their work each day!
Our school's mission is "Learning for All," and this drives our work each and every day. At Cross Oaks, we believe that all students are capable of learning and achieving at high levels. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to help all children succeed!
While academic learning is a priority for us, we are intentional in addressing students' social and emotional needs as well. We understand social and emotional learning to be foundational to a student's academic success.
Our school's theme for this school year is "Growing the Hearts of Champions." This focus stems from an incredibly impactful training our entire staff experienced called Capturing Kids' Hearts. Please ask a Cross Oaks staff member to tell you about how we are using these tools to connect with our students, our families, and with one another! Our guiding quote for the year comes from Rita Pierson, a renowned educator: "Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best they can possibly be."
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support of learning at Cross Oaks, and please do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of service!
