• How can you help your child improve their reading?

    1.  Read out loud to your child every day. Even if you can only spare a few minutes a day, your child will enjoy being read to as well as having your attention just for them.

    2.  Help your child choose books that are just right for them. All of our students are familiar with choosing Good Fit books.

    3.  Research shows that children who read every day improve their reading levels dramatically over time.  The best thing your child can do to become a better reader is to read every day. Reading is just like practicing a sport or musical instrument.  If your child is not practicing on a regular basis, they will not improve.

    4.  Practicing a short reading passage over and over out loud helps to improve your child's fluency and expression.  Chose a short passage each week (less than 100 words) and have your child practice it out loud 3-4 times every day Monday - Friday.  Each Monday choose a new passage and start the process over again.  This helps to build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
