• Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are excited to start the spring semester here at HMS. As we look at preparing your student for high school, we will be modifying one aspect of our grading policy for 8th grade students only. Per our campus policy, students who receive a failing grade on a major summative assessment and are failing the class at the time the assessment is returned are required to reassess the exam. Since this requirement is not a part of any DISD high school grading policy, mandatory reassessments will be done away with for the remainder of the school year (again for 8th graders only). From this point forward, students receiving failing grades on any assessment, whether major or minor, must initiate a reassessment. We are expecting that by making this change, students will take ownership and responsibility of their learning and grades. Incoming 8th graders will be subject to our regular policy for the first semester of the 2017-2018 school year.

HAC will continue to be a resource if you would like to check your student’s grades. In addition, email reminders also be sent if student’s grades fall below a 70.

We are eager to work with you in preparing your student for future success. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions.

    Sincerely,

    HMS Administration
