The Calhoun Orchestra program is built on trust, respect, open-mindedness, and risk-taking. There are four groups in the CMS Orchestra:
Amati - The Amati Orchestra is a group for first and second year Orchestra students. This group focuses on fundamentals, and development of technique. The Amati Orchestra has won 1st and 2nd division trophies at contests like Sandy Lake Funfest every year.
Guarneri - The Guarneri Orchestra is comprised mostly of 7th and 8th grade students and a few 6th grade students who audition into the group. It is the intermediate upper level Orchestra. This Orchestra is for students who are interested in developing their skills but either are not as interested in competing at contest, or need more development of their skills before advancing.
Stradivari - The Stradivari Orchestra is comprised of mostly 7th and 8th grade students and a few 6th graders who audition into the group. It is the advanced upper level Orchestra. This Orchestra is for students who are interested in putting in extra time before and after school and preparing for competitions like UIL Contest. The Stradivari Orchestra is consistently awarded 1st and 2nd division ratings at UIL Contest.
Swing Strings - The Swing Strings Orchestra is an extra-curricular Orchestra. This group focuses on learning Jazz, Blues and Pop technique on their string instruments. This group is for advanced Orchestra students, and performs at Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. This year we will also perform at the Calhoun Jazz Festival.
