LMC Description

The Lee Elementary Library Media Center (LMC) is a fully-automated resource base for all students and staff members. The LMC is staffed by Kellie Vaughan, our full-time library media specialist, and Kaycie Bowen, a full-time paraprofessional, to assist students and staff members. Students visit the center with their classroom teacher or as part of their Special Areas rotation. While in the library, students check out books, conduct research, and work on special projects.  Classes also have a  storytime in the library and all students participate in lessons which help them to learn about the various skills and technologies that support information access and evaluation. At Lee Elementary Reading builds "Leeders!"

bookTexas Bluebonnet Award

The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) reading program was founded in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. The award process provides librarians, teachers, parents, and writers with insight into young students' reading preferences. It further affords an opportunity to honor and encourage imaginative authors who create books with high appeal to children. Each spring Lee's 3-5th grade students vote to select their favorite from among the list of 20 Bluebonnet nominees. Click here http://www.txla.org/TBA-nominees to see the 2012-13 list of nominees . The program is a project of the Texas Library Association, and is co-sponsored by the Children's Round Table and the Texas Association of School Libraries.
