• Welcome to 4th Grade

    School Year 2015-2016

Welcome to 4th grade at McNair.  We are looking forward to a very successful and productive year.  We have high expectations for you and your child, and we will be doing all that we can to help your child achieve those expectations.  We would like to take this opportunity to introduce and give you an overview of our policies and goals.

We are working closely as an integrated team to provide a nurturing environment in order to help your child to be as successful as he or she can be.  You can help your child achieve success by communicating with him/her about school assignments and checking the agenda daily.

Please review the following policies with your child:

High expectations are present both in and out of the classroom.  In addition to the district rules outlined in the student’s handbook, the following is the fourth grade expectation:  The classroom is a learning environment set up for the success of all students.  If a student disrupts this environment for the others, the student will be offered choices or consequences for the behavior.  Any issues with your child’s behavior will be documented in the agenda.

Assignments are expected to be turned in on time.  Assignments are provided to help students master their learning objectives.  We appreciate your help in assisting students to be responsible in their learning.

Completed work will be sent home on Tuesday along with other printed communications. Please sign the signature side of the folder to acknowledge that you have seen your child’s work.  The work coming home will be a way for you to monitor your child’s progress towards meeting the learning targets.  Please take time to read the comments provided.

Make-up assignments will be handled according to the district policy outlined in the student handbook.  Your child has the number of days missed plus one to turn in absent work.  District policy states that students have 48 hours to turn in absence notes directly to the front office.  Teachers will not be responsible for turning in absence notes.  If your child has a note excusing them from P.E. due to injury or illness, they will also be required to sit out during recess.

You can help your child this year by checking to see that he or she has the proper supplies.  Please refer to the fourth grade supply list for the recommended materials, and check periodically to see if your child needs any supplies replenished.  Most importantly, see that he or she always has several pencils, glue sticks, and a red correcting pen.

Finally, we wish to keep the lines of communication open with you.  We can be reached during our conference period, which is between 9:35-10:25.  The school telephone number is 940-369-3600.  Phone calls will be sent to voice mail during class instruction.  Feel free to email us at any time.

Your child is required to purchase and keep up with the school agenda.  Daily assignments will be recorded along with necessary teacher comments.  It is our expectation that parents check these agendas every night.  Students will need to bring their agendas to class each day.

We look forward to an enjoyable and productive school year with your child!

    Sincerely,                                                                                                                                                                 Fourth Grade
