  • Calhoun's journey as an authorized International World School continues as more teachers and administrators attend training, additional interdisciplinary units to enhanace our curriculum are written, and schedules are being adjusted to meet the needs of our students and teachers. 
     
    • Calhoun Middle School was granted Candidate Status for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, June 2007.
    • IB implementation began Fall 2007 with the addition of an eighth period that allows our students to  be a part of a holistic school curriculum, providing them with exposure to math, science, social studies (Humanities), language arts (Language A), foreign language (Language B), Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Technology.
    • Implemlentation continued Fall 2008 with 6th graders having the option to take Spanish or French.  Our 7th graders continued with Spanish 1A (Foreign language is the communication component of IB.)
    • Application B was submitted to International Baccalaureate North America, December 1, 2008.
    • An Authorization Team visited Calhoun, Spring 2009, and evaluated our implementation of the IB programme.  
    • Calhoun Middle School received its authorization as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme World School in June 2009. 
    • Teachers continue to include Learner Profile character traits when developing lessons.
    • Teachers continue to make real world connections to content using the IB Areas of Interactions: Approaches to Learning, Environments, Community and Service, Health and Social Education, and Human Ingenuity (inventions and creativity of man).
