Hello friends and family at Stephens Elementary. My name is Erin Phillips and I am so excited about this year.

I have been asked to share a little bit about myself, so here it is. I have a wonderful husband of nineteen years named Michael, and we are blessed to have a beautiful 15 year-old daughter named Savanna Lynn.  Savanna is a sophomore at Ryan High School. She is a very sweet, smart and athletic young lady who keeps us on our toes. We also have an amazing son who adds so much energy and creativity to our family.  His name is Dylan Michael and he is a very active 10 year old. He attends Stephens and is in fifth grade.  Needless to say, our lives are rather exciting and busy.

I earned my degree from The University of North Texas in May of 2000.  While I was in college, I did several practicums and I even did my student teaching right here in Denton under the supervision of our former principal, Mr. Southard, at Hodge Elementary.  I am certified to teach all of the elementary grades and have a specialization in reading.  I also have a minor in kineisiology and health. This will be my seventeenth year in education. Before coming to Stephens Elementary, I taught for six years at Hodge Elementary and 2 years at Savannah, both schools are a part of the Denton ISD. This year will begin my tenth year here with the Bulldogs at Stephens. In my eighteen years as an educator, I  taught first grade for ten years and enjoyed each and every minute of it.  I was then very fortunate to have the opportunity to be the Math and Reading Interventionist in grades 3-5. This change was very exciting for me, yet at the same time, very eye opening. I realized very quickly that I missed the classroom and more importantly the kiddos.  So after that year, I was offered a third grade position and had a blast.  I then moved to second grade for one year and was asked to move back up to teach Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies in third grade again, I did this for two years. Now, I am back for my third year in first grade and cannot begin to explain how happy I am. This has always been where my heart is, I love the little ones!  I feel the biggest gains are made in first grade.  First grade is the hardest grade I have ever taught and is also the most rewarding.  The students grow so much! There are so many things that I am looking forward to this year - I truly am excited.

Over the past ten years, I have truly been blessed to be at Stephens. Stephens has been such a positive part of our family.  I am very excited about having the opportunity to be around such a wonderful group of adults and more especially a fantastic group of "MIGHTY DAWGS!"

I am looking forward to a great year!
