    Mr. Palmer
    Howard Palmer, Assistant Principal
I was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated from Southwood High School.  I am a proud graduate of  Louisiana College, where I received a Bachelor's degree in English and 2LT Commission in 1980. I live in Denton with my wife, Beth. Our son is currently serving in the United States Air Force. In my spare time, I enjoy sports, reading, gardening, hunting and shooting, fishing, and spending time with my family.
I have 14 years of classroom experience in Ft Worth, Quinlan, and Aubrey ISDs. I am certified in Secondary English and Social Studies, and I've taught everything from English, to Journalism, to World History, to American History, to Freshman Study Skills. I've coached wrestling, tennis, and UIL Cross-exam  debate.   I  received my Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1999, concurrent with serving as High School Assistant Principal in Aubrey.
I was mobilized to Bosnia for the 49th Armored Division’s historic peacekeeping mission in 2000. Between 2001 and 2006, I alternated between Calhoun Middle School as an Assistant Principal and National Guard deployments for Homeland Security. I am a Brigadier General and command the Army Component of the Texas State Guard, Texas Military Forces.
I joined the staff of Denton High School in the summer of 2008 after retiring from a 28 year Texas Army National Guard career.  My current responsibilities on campus are discipline and IEPs for students S-Z, building and grounds matters, and the infamous "other duties as assigned."  I, for one, am excited to be here.  There's no place better in Denton.
