Jennifer L. Carter, Ph.D.
Howdy, Cowboys. I am the counselor for team 6.1, 7.1, and 8.1. I can help with academic, social, and emotional needs. Please feel free to contact me by email or drop by my office with any issues that might be concerning you. Here is a little info about me:
I have been practicing as a school counselor since 2002. I have experience as a high school counselor, a middle school counselor, a testing coordinator, and a special education counselor. I have also practiced as an intern in a mental health facility, working with the child/adolescent population. In 2012, I was named Texas Middle School Counselor of the Year by the Texas Counseling Association. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and can practice outside the school setting. I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association and the American School Counselor Association.
I have a bachelor's degree in journalism from UT Tyler, a master's degree in counseling from UT Tyler, and a PhD in child development from Texas Woman's University. My doctoral research focused on cyberbullying behavior and prevention. I have also done extensive research about relational aggression in adolescent girls.
A cause close to my heart is that of animal assisted therapy. I am a registered handler with Pet Partners and have used a therapy dog on school grounds for about 5 years. Recently, my therapy dog, Shelby, passed away. I am in the beginning stages of training a new puppy which will take about a year.
Aside from counseling with students, I serve on the Campus Leadership Team, and am acting lead counselor at RCMS.
I am married with two boys and enjoy spending time with my family. We have two dogs, three cats, and one fish. I spend most of my spare time at the baseball field and basketball court. I like pizza and movie nights at home and walking my dog.
Please stop by and say hi anytime. I am here to help.
