District student's artwork now hanging in Mellow Mushroom

Jordyn Wiley with art teacher Dashia Richey
Incoming Ryan High School freshman and former Myers Middle School student Jordyn Wiley is well known by her teachers as an artist, and now hundreds to thousands of people will see her mural hanging in Denton's Mellow Mushroom.
Earlier this year, Mellow Mushroom began accepting entries for its annual art contest, which results in the winning entry being hung in the restaurant for an entire year. Jordyn won the contest, which is open to anyone and typically dominated by adult entries, for her mural depicting a skull with flowers in a Day of the Dead-themed painting.
After winning the contest with a small entry, Jordyn painted a 4-by-8-foot mural version of her artwork, which now hangs in Mellow Mushroom, located at 217 E. Hickory St. Jordyn was assisted by her art teacher at Myers, Dashia Richey, with preparation for painting the larger version of her artwork.
As a result of her victory, Jordyn was also awarded with $500, art supplies and a yearlong discount to the restaurant.
