Various schools hosting activities for Sept. 11

Various Denton ISD schools plan on hosting activities on Sept. 11 either in remembrance of 9-11 or as part of annual Grandparents Day festivities. A list of activities can be seen below. For additional information on any event, please contact the school directly.
 

Day of Remembrance

 
Harpool Middle School
Staff and parents will host a blood drive from 1-5 p.m. to honor those lost on Sept. 11. For more information on the event, please contact Jennifer Hutson, volunteer drive coordinator and Harpool teacher, by phone at 940-369-1780 or via email at jhutson@dentonisd.org.

Myers Middle School
Students will honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11 in a ceremony and a moment of silence in partnership with the Lake Cities Fire Department beginning with the National Anthem at 8:45 a.m. For more information contact Audra Williams by email at awilliams@dentonisd.org.
 

 

Grandparents Day

 
Evers Park Elementary
Each grade level is hosting a reading activity with grandparents serving as guest readers throughout the morning. Please RSVP by contacting your student’s teacher before Wednesday, Sept. 9 to let them know you wish to participate.

Nelson Elementary
Grandparents are invited to join their student for lunch during their class period beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Paloma Creek Elementary
The school day begins with an activity to honor grandparents from 8-8:30 a.m. then transition to a reception from 8:30-8:55 a.m. in the library. Grandparents are welcome to join their student for lunch during their class’ lunch period.

Providence Elementary
Grandparents of kindergarteners are invited to “Breakfast & Book” from at 7:35-8 a.m. Grandparents of first through fifth grade students are invited to have lunch with their student during their class lunch period.
 
Newton Rayzor Elementary
Each classroom will have a unique lesson teaching students how visiting grandparents can be primary sources of information and learn to connect that information to their current unit of study. Grandparents are also invited to have lunch with their students and learn about the schools new initiative - Grandparents in the Garden. Classroom visits and lunch times vary by grade, so please call the school for an exact schedule.  

Windle School for Young Children
Grandparents are invited to a come-and-go event with their student from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
