Guyer to host blood drive on Oct. 6

Guyer High School will host a blood drive in partnership with Carter BloodCare on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with students, staff and community members are invited to donate blood.

Blood donations will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school’s gym, located at 7501 Teasley Lane in Denton. The school’s goal is to reach 200 units of blood donated, which could save up to 600 lives.

Potential donors must be at least 16 years old and in good health, though children ages 16 and 17 must also have signed parental permission. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and cannot drink alcohol within 12 hours prior to donating blood.

Donations cannot be given if antibiotics are being taken for any reason other than health maintenance or prevention. Potential donors are encouraged to drink lots of water or juice before and after donating, and donors are encouraged to avoid strenuous activity or alcohol consumption for at least 12 hours after giving blood.
