Nine district students named to freshman all-region bands

Nine freshmen from Denton, Guyer and Ryan high schools have earned placed on the TMEA’s 5A Region 2 or 6A Region 2 band, joining 23 of their upperclassmen peers who were named to the TMEA all-region bands.

Each school earned multiple places on its respective 9th grade band, with Guyer leading the way with five freshmen musicians on the 6A Region 2 band, followed by Denton with two on the 5A Region 2 band and Ryan with two on the 6A Region 2 band. All nine of the 9th grade band honorees can be heard at the TMEA Region 2 All-Region Band concert beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Guyer High School auditorium, located at 7501 Teasley Lane in Denton.

The full list of students selected to the TMEA 9th Grade All-Region Band is as follows:
Denton High School (5A Region 2)
  • Autumn Brown, Bb clarinet, 8th chair
  • Emily Lin, percussion, 7th chair
Brian Wilson is the director of bands at Denton High School. He is assisted by Jesse Woolery and Robert Brannock.
Guyer High School (6A Region 2)
  • Emily Calma, flute, 2nd chair
  • Harrison Daniels, oboe, 1st chair
  • Savannah Ekrut, flute, 3rd chair
  • Alexis Helal, trumpet, 9th chair
  • Brent Jackson, trumpet, 4th chair
Amy Woody is the director of bands at Guyer High School. She is assisted by Tyler Brinkman and Dr. Ellis Hampton.
Ryan High School (6A Region 2)
  • Emily McClanahan, oboe, 4th chair
  • Gideon Imboden, tuba, 6th chair
Eddy Russell is the director of bands at Ryan High School. He is assisted by Lee Smith and Mary Standlee Brown.
