Hallie’s Heroes 5K taking place at W.S. Ryan on April 2 to benefit student

A 5K will take place at W.S. Ryan Elementary on Saturday, April 2, to benefit one of its students, with proceeds going to medical research and a bone marrow registry swab being held to help find matches for those needing medical help.

The Hallie’s Heroes 5K benefits Hallie Barnard, a W.S. Ryan second-grader battling Diamond Blackfan anemia, a rare blood disorder that limits the production of red bloods cells her bone marrow makes. Hallie has fought this disease through the use of steroids and blood transfusions but needs a bone marrow match to find a cure.

Entry fees prior to the race are $15 for participants ages 3 to 18 and $25 for participants ages 19 and older. On race day, the price will increase to $23 for participants ages 3 to 18 and $32 for participants ages 19 and older. To register for the race online, click here.

Registration and race packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event, and the 5K will start at 9 a.m. The run will take place at W.S. Ryan Elementary, located at 201 Ryan Road in Denton. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero for the race.
