Districtwide registration for pre-kindergarten taking place July 25, 26

Parents and legal guardians interested in enrolling their children for Denton ISD pre-kindergarten for the 2016-17 school year can do so at a registration event taking place Monday, July 25, and Tuesday, July 26, at Denton High School.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. both days and last until 4 p.m. on July 25 and until noon on July 26. Pre-kindergarten programs will be offered at the Gonzalez and Windle schools for young children, while Borman, Cross Oaks, Stephens, Lee, Newton Rayzor, Rivera and Ryan elementary schools will provide pre-kindergarten pending enrollment numbers.

Regardless of the desired campus, registration for all schools will take place at the Denton High event, located at 1007 Fulton St. in Denton. It is recommended you attend this event to guarantee your child's place in a Pre-K program at a specific school.

Families of returning pre-K students who have received snapcodes by email can finalize the registration process online and bring their two-page InfoSnap verification form to this event or the school to complete enrollment. Snapcodes for returning pre-K students will be sent out Thursday, July 21.

Parents of returning students should use snapcodes and not register their child as a new student.

If you have a returning student, please use your child's snapcode to complete the online registration process through InfoSnap; registering your child as a new student will only extend the process. Returning families that qualified for free pre-K service must also bring the appropriate documents (listed below) to re-qualify for the coming school year.

Families of new Pre-K students can begin the registration process using InfoSnap beginning Tuesday, July 5, by clicking here. Completing this process in advance will expedite the enrollment process at the Pre-K registration event.

Half-day Pre-K programs are offered by Denton ISD to families for free if they meet set criteria determined by the state, though paid options for half-day or full-day pre-K are also available.

For children to qualify for free half-day pre-K, they must meet at least one of the following requirements:
  • Speak limited English
  • Qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • Be active military dependents
  • Have been with the Department of Family and Protective Services
  • Be homeless
Denton ISD also offers a paid Pre-K Academy program, currently only provided at the Gonzalez School for Young Children and Cross Oaks Elementary. Pending necessary enrollment figures, a single Pre-K Academy class will be offered at Paloma Creek Elementary to better reach families in the Braswell High School Zone. Current tuition rates are $750 per month for full-day enrollment or $400 per month for half-day enrollment, each with a $90 registration fee due during the sign-up process. These rates are subject to change.

To qualify for pre-kindergarten, a child must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1. To register children, parents and guardians must bring the following items for each child:
  • Birth certificate
  • Social security card
  • Updated immunization records
  • Current proof of residency (a utility bill, lease agreement or similar item)
  • Three emergency contacts
Registration cannot be completed without the aforementioned items.

In addition to pre-K registration, the July 25 and 26 event will also serve as a vaccination clinic. Free vaccines will be available for any pre-K student with CHIP, who is qualified for Medicaid or who is uninsured. For more information on the free vaccines, click here.
