High schools account for 30 regional qualifiers at district UIL academic meets

Denton Independent School District students accounted for 15 individual or team academic victories and 30 regional qualifiers overall at their respective district UIL academic meets recently.

The students will compete in their events at Academic UIL Regional Meets, and earn the right to compete at the UIL Academic State Meet on at the University of Texas at Austin in May.

Points were tabulated through the top six places in various academic events, with the top three individuals and first-place teams advancing to the UIL Regional Meets. The second-place teams qualified as regional wild cards.

Denton ISD’s regional academic qualifiers included:

Denton High School

  • Computer science: Brady Clayton, second place; Team (Brady Clayton, Aiden Dalrymple, Henrik Henderson, Natalie Cygan), second place/regional wild card
  • Journalism: Shelby DuPont, news writing, first place
  • Literary Criticism: Lillian King, second place; Kristin Williamson, third place; Team (Lillian King, Kristin Williamson, Yvette Han), second place/regional wild card
  • Math: Kesavan Srivilliputhur, second place
  • Ready Writing: Lillian King, second place
  • Science: Kesavan Srivilliputhur, chemistry, first place
  • Spelling & Vocabulary: TJ Akram, first place; Donna Son, second place; Hannah Chen, third place; Team (TJ Akram, Donna Son, Hannah Chen, Caden Young), first place
