Two Myers students selected to local leadership boards

Two Myers Middle School students were recently selected to serve on local leadership boards, with one named to the city of Denton’s Teen Council and another named to a local educational organization’s Digital Learning Team.

The city of Denton named rising Myers eighth-grader Eugene Tonda was named to its 2016-17 Teen Council, where he will play a crucial role as a voice for teens in the city. This council serves as a forum for young adults to develop leadership skills, build self-esteem, engage in social events and participate in community affairs. Denton Teen Council also aims to empower, enlighten and inspire youth residents of the city.

Fellow rising eighth-grader Seth Henigan was also recently named to a leadership position on a local board with his selection to the Student Ambassador Board of Education Service Center Region 11’s Digital Learning Team.

In his position, Seth advocates for unique teaching and learning using digital avenues instead of standardized instruction. The team serves to challenge standardized methods with relevant learning experiences.

Both Eugene and Seth will use their final year of middle school to advocate for their causes throughout the course of the school year.
