Welcome Class of 2020! Freshmen get their own first day on Aug. 19

The 2016-17 school year will begin Monday, Aug. 22, for all students in the Denton Independent School District, but not for high school freshmen. The district’s Freshman First Day program ensures these students get an early, first-hand look at high school life at each of their respective campuses before the rest of their classmates at 8:50 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19.

For the district’s new high school, Braswell High, it will be the first time the BHS Class of 2020 will meet and tour their new campus, the district’s fourth comprehensive high school.
The program serves as an orientation for first-year high school students by offering a welcome program as well as allowing them to attend classes, walk the halls on their own and get acclimated to the larger campuses. And for freshman at Braswell High, it will be the student’s first introduction to their new campus and new traditions.
Freshman First Day also introduces participants to various school clubs, organizations and programs without the added stress of a typical first day of school.
Lunch will be available for purchase or students may bring it from home. In addition, bus transportation to students who would normally receive it will be provided.
For more information on the program, please contact your respective high school or the department of academic programs at 940-369-0032.
