Internet & social media safety program set for Jan. 10

Blanton Elementary will host a special program focusing on internet safety and social media awareness for parents Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the school cafetorium.

The program will offer parents an informational session focusing on technological issues affecting students and their families today including: online predators, cyberbullying and sexting. The session will begin promptly following a brief PTA meeting at 6 p.m.
 
Prominent speaker Katelyn LeClerc Greer to speak about all of these technology-driven topics. Ms. Greer is a former intelligence analyst for the Massachusetts State Police and a former internet safety coordinator for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office.
 
Ms. Greer and her informative internet safety programs have been featured in Time magazine, USA Today and on CNN, and she will be providing much of that acclaimed content in her presentation. Due to the graphic nature of some of the content and discussion topics, however, no one under 18 will be allowed into the sessions.
 
Childcare will be available for participating parents courtesy of the Harpool Middle School National Junior Honor Society.
