Denton High counselor earns national award

Dr. Justin Fields, a counselor at Denton High School, was recently named a recipient of the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award.

Each year students admitted into the University of Chicago nominate educators who have impacted their lives through excellent teaching and/or mentorship. These educators not just influenced them, but also challenged them and helped them achieve more in school.

Dr. Fields oversees the implementation of the Denton Works Youth Program in partnership with the United Way of Denton County, helps place students in the Mayor of Denton’s Summer Youth Jobs Program and assists with the school’s end-of-the year senior program.

“As an institution that prides itself on being committeed to the Life of the Mind, we at the University of Chicago are heartened to see that your schools foster and support such outstanding individuals as Dr. Fields,” said James Nondorf, vice president for enrollment at the University of Chicago.

A graduate of the University of Richmond, Dr. Fields earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University. He has been a high school counselor for more than a decade.
