District fifth grade transition meetings to be held Feb. 12

Denton ISD will hold its annual fifth grade transition meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at each of the district’s eight middle schools. The event is geared toward helping students and parents prepare for the transition to middle school.

Each meeting will feature an information session to help parents and students learn about their feeder middle school and what it will offer compared to elementary school. Those in attendance will be able to meet the principal, counselors and teachers, learn about elective choices, get information on athletic teams and extra-curricular clubs and get tips on how to make a smooth transition from elementary to middle school.

“Elementary school and middle school are very different.  Our middle school counselors and administrators want to help make that transition as smooth as possible so students can focus on being successful,” said Rene Shelton, elementary counseling coordinator. “This is a great time for parents to meet the people who will be involved with their children the next three years and get any questions they have answered.”

To check which middle school your elementary student will feed into, please visit http://bus.dentonisd.org/livewq/webquery/ and type in the address of residency and current grade level.
